Our Dedicated Staff 9-10 Homeroom History
Mrs. Cheryl SimondsGrades 7-8 Homeroom History Born and raised in Michigan, Mrs. Simonds moved to North Carolina in 1994 along with her husband Jim and their two children Luke and Cara. Cara is in the 12th grade FLDLA Program at TCA. Luke is a junior at Southern Adventist University. This is my 14th year of teaching with the last six being at TCA, four years were at Salisbury SDA School and the first three were at ACA-Charlotte. Philosophy I believe that all students ARE learners. I like to help students discover their natural learning style, acknowledge their strengths and learn strategies to compensate for their weaknesses. I strongly believe that the classroom should be a safe and healthy LEARNING environment where all students know they are respected and valued. Success does not always happen immediately. School is the place to learn and our classroom WILL BE a place where mistakes can be safely made and appropriate help given to help your child succeed. Preparation ![]() Robin Cowdrick Davis Grades 5-6 Preparation: B.S., Communications-Media/Journalism, Columbia Union College, MD, 1984 Certification Courses: Union College, NE and Southern Adventist University, TN Elementary Teacher Certification, endorsements in junior academy English, Bible: North American Division of Seventh-day Adventists Licensed Minister of Teaching Credential Background: Before coming to North Carolina, Mrs. Davis lived in the mid-west for 20 years with her husband, Pastor Don Davis, and raised her children, Eric, a Computer Science Administration major at Southern Adventist University, and Karyn, who will graduate from academy in the class of 2011. Mrs. Davis draws on her experiences in music organizations, serving as a student missionary, student literature evangelist, camp counselor, and managing editor to motivate her students to develop their talents and use them to serve others. While serving in Minnesota, Mrs. Davis started a Kindergarten program and elementary chime choir, witnessing first hand the miracles God can do to build a new church school in a metro area. Philosophy: With a goal to help young people find joy in their relationship with Jesus Christ, during grades 5 and 6 Mrs. Davis utilizes a class hand chime/bell choir, outdoor school trip, teambuilding activities, music festival trips, ALEKS math tutor, microscopes, Speedstacking and a Mileage Club to guide and train students in new skills, develop teamwork, experience success, strengthen confidence, build character, provide a platform for leadership and experience opportunities to serve and mentor others. She directs TCA's Handbell Ensemble and assists with 7-10 Chorus. Interests: Mrs. Davis enjoys experiencing new things, travel, missions, musical instruments, singing, outdoor/nature activities, water aerobics, museums, books, concerts, meeting, encouraging and connecting people, and learning to live generously. Julie Primero Grades 3-4 Julie Primero has been teaching since 1984 when she graduated from Andrews University with a BA degree in Elementary Education. Her first year, she taught sixth grade in Palau, West Caroline Islands. Her second year was spent teaching fifth and sixth grades in Tampa, Florida and then she settled in Berrien Springs, Michigan and taught for another 16 years in differing combinations of grades 1-4 at Ruth Murdoch Elementary and the Village SDA School. During this time she attended Andrews University and completed a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction. She also worked as an adjunct professor at Andrews University, teaching methods courses in Language Arts and P.E. After taking off two years to have her sons, Arceo and Julian, she returned to teaching, this time at Brookhaven Christian School in Greenville, NC where she taught grades 5-8 for four years and served as head teacher. She also taught summer reading classes at Northern Caribbean University in Mandeville, Jamaica. This special opportunity brought her back to her “beginnings” because she was born in Kingston, Jamaica when her parents were faculty members at what was then West Indies College. Julie loves to travel and spent one year learning French in France, when she visited several European countries. She has also visited Thailand, India and the Philippines. Julie’s career is teaching, but it is also her main “hobby.” She especially enjoys curriculum development and has had extra training in techniques such as cooperative learning, inductive and deductive instruction, mastery learning, direct instruction, team-building activities and her favorite-- simulations. Although not “professionally musically” trained, Julie enjoys singing and playing her guitar and teaches baritone ukulele to her third and fourth grade students. She also enjoys outdoor activities such as swimming, skiing, kayaking and camping, and feels it hasn’t been a “good” day if she hasn’t gotten in some reading. She’s an avid NPR listener and often finds herself sharing bits of “great info” she heard on the radio. Julie loves the Lord and sharing personal stories of God’s leading in her life. Julie is professionally certified in Elementary Education with endorsements in French and Religion. She holds a commissioned Ministry of Teaching Credential and is an ASCD (Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development) member. If asked her favorite teaching level, she would respond, “I just love teaching, whether it’s to my two boys, a graduate group of teachers, or anything in-between!"
